The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko’s latest quarterly report to the Minister for Energy shows the mahi we have delivered for consumers from 1 October to 31 December 2025.

Highlights from this quarter include:

  • a refreshed strategic framework that puts consumers at the centre of everything we do and sets out our focus on delivering affordable and secure and resilient electricity for all New Zealanders
  • strong support from consumers on our proposals to simplify electricity bills, making them clearer and easier to understand
  • a disconnections dashboard, using new retail data to shine a light on monthly disconnections for non-payment for domestic and small business customers
  • proposed Code changes to level the playing field so independent generators and retailers can better compete with the gentailers
  • updates proposed to market making arrangements to support risk management and improve confidence in contract markets
  • tackled barriers to new connections by proposing measures to limit the high up-front charges to connect to networks
  • an in-principle decision made to establish an Emergency Reserve Scheme, to boost security of supply and protect consumers from unplanned disconnections.

The report also sets out progress against our Statement of performance expectations 2025/26. All 17 of our performance measures and all 12 strategic activities – which show how we are working to ensure affordable, reliable electricity for consumers – are on track after the second quarter of the financial year.
