Improving product and consumption information exchange - proposals for new and updated standards

The Authority has decided to modernise and improve the exchange of electricity product and consumption information. These decisions include:

1. Replacing the existing Electricity Information Exchange Protocol 14: Retailer Tariff Notification (EIEP14) with a new modular suite of protocols: EIEP14A, EIEP14B, and EIEP14C.
2. Amending the Code to give the Electricity Authority the ability to prescribe the form and structure of the suite of new EIEP14 protocols.
3. Extending the scope of product information requested under the Code to include both generally available plans and “legacy” plans (plans that are not promoted but still provided to consumers).
4. Requiring retailers to assign a product identification code to every retail tariff plan they offer.

This consultation seeks feedback on the proposed format for the new regulated EIEP14B, covering consumer’s personal product information and updates to EIEP13A and 13B covering personal consumption information.

EIEP14B is the format which prescribes how retailers provide information on an individual consumer’s current plan.

EIEP13A is the format which prescribes how retailers provide detailed (half hour and non-half hour) electricity consumption information to consumers or their authorised agents.

EIEP13B is the format which prescribes how retailers provide summary consumption information to consumers or their authorised agents.

Timely and accessible data sharing will help consumers make informed decisions and give them more control over their power choices.
