Next steps for MOSP 10-year roadmap

  • Policy
  • Strategy

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko has decided to focus on modernising data sharing and governance arrangements ahead of considering any structural reform of market operation service provider (MOSP) services.

This decision comes after considering feedback on potential medium- to long-term changes to MOSP arrangements outlined in our consultation 'Enabling market evolution: market operation service provider 10-year roadmap'.

Submitters were broadly supportive of modernising the MOSP services to enable a more efficient and adaptable market infrastructure, but most wanted data sharing arrangements updated first before any structural reform.

Submitters also highlighted the importance of aligning with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s work on an electricity sector consumer data right.

The Authority will support modernisation of existing data interfaces following the start of the new MOSP contracts from July 2027 and integrate any necessary changes to the existing electricity information exchange protocols. This will include any changes arising from a consumer data right in the retail electricity sector.

More information is available in the following decision paper.
